Korean Red Ginseng: Qualitative and Quantitative Benefits on Helicobacter pylori Infection

چکیده
An overview of Helicobacter pylori infection The discovery of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), resident in the human stomach, as the causal agent of chronic disease including chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer diseases, and gastric cancer, was revolutionary in gastroenterology. Whereas the mouth and the colon were both known to host a large number of microorganisms, collectively referred to as the microbiome, the stomach was thought to be virtually sterile because its high acidity provides a very harsh environment for pathogens [1]. However, many species of bacteria are known reside in the stomach and that, among them, H. pylori seems to dominate [2]. Moreover, H. pylori was the first bacterium documented to behave as a carcinogen and it has been classified by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Carcinogenesis (IARC) as a class I carcinogen [3-5]. While little doubt exists that H. pylori infection is a major factor in the pathogenesis of gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcer disease, and chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), these diseases seems to originate from a complex interaction among the bacterium, the host, and the gastric environKorean Red Ginseng: Qualitative and Quantitative Benefits on Helicobacter pylori Infection

Inhibition of Hydrogen Sulfide-induced Angiogenesis and Inflammation in Vascular Endothelial Cells: Potential Mechanisms of Gastric Cancer Prevention by Korean Red Ginseng
Previously, we reported that Helicobacter pylori-associated gastritis and gastric cancer are closely associated with increased levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and that Korean red ginseng significantly reduced the severity of H. pylori-associated gastric diseases by attenuating H2S generation. Because the incubation of endothelial cells with H2S has been known to enhance their angiogenic activi...
متن کاملP-52: Protective Effects of Korean Red Ginseng on The Testis of Epididymo-Orchitis in The Rat Model
Background: Bacterial infections are mostly the consequence of an ascending infection of the genito-urinary tract which can ultimately lead to epididymo-orchitis. Ginseng has proven its worth with respect to reproductive function in several reports. Therefore, Escherichia coli M39 was employed to investigate whether Ginseng have protective effects on the testis of epididymo-orchitis in the rat m...
متن کاملO-2: Co-Administration of Korean Red Ginseng and Ciprofloxacin May Improve The Sperm Quality and Apoptosis of Testes in Epididymo-Orchitis Rat Model Induced by Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli
Background Adverse effects of genitourinary tracts infections on the reproductive system of male are known. Some of these effects are caused by oxidative events. Ciprofloxacin is a choice antibacterial agent in the treatment of these infections. It has been shown that this drug can also induce apoptosis through the activation of the enzyme caspase-3 and oxidative damages in target tissues. With...
متن کاملProtective effect of Korean Red Ginseng extract against Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric inflammation in Mongolian gerbils
Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric inflammation includes induction of inflammatory mediators interleukin (IL)-8 and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), which are mediated by oxidant-sensitive transcription factor NF-κB. High levels of lipid peroxide (LPO) and increased activity of myeloperoxidase (MPO), a biomarker of neutrophil infiltration, are observed in H. pylori-infected gastric muco...
متن کاملAntibacterial activities of Galla rhois extracts against Helicobacter pylori infection
In this study, a medicinal plant, Galla rhois (GR), was examined and screened for its anti-Helicobacter pylori activity. Galla rhois was extracted with 70% ethanol. Inhibitory zone tests, as in vitro assays, and an in vivo study using a Mongolian gerbil (Meriones unguiculatus) model were performed. The safety of the GR extract was then evaluated in an animal study. The Galla rhois extract demon...
